Lucas' Story

On March 16, 2021 our lives were forever changed when our 14 month old was diagnose with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Our baby boy was peeing through his diaper at night for a few weeks and I (mom) knew something was just not right. On that dreadful morning I made an appointment with his PCP, got Lucas out of bed, and he started immediately crying for the water cup. At that moment I knew my mom gut was right. At the doctors office, his blood glucose read "HIGH" and there were large ketones in his urine. We went straight to the hospital where he was admitted and in DKA, a life-threatening complication. Lucas did not have to be admitted to the ICU and surprisingly his A1C was only 8.2, which is high but it meant we caught this disease early. We spent 3 days in the hospital learning the basic ins and outs of T1D. We thought we learned a lot then, but we were only touching the tip of the iceberg.

With T1D there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope.

Our team is walking to end type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Scientific advances are being turned into therapies that are changing the course of T1D. And together, we have the power to drive these therapies to market as quickly as we can.

We hope you will join our team or donate to our fundraising goal! By joining the JDRF One Walk, you'll be part of the lasting footprint we'll make for the T1D community now, and for generations to come.

Thank you for your support.
