What is the Ride to Cure diabetes?

The JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes is a charitable bike ride that raises money for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. The JDRF Ride gives new and experienced cyclists and their friends and families the opportunity to fundraise for critical (T1D) research and join thousands of passionate riders at a JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes.

Participants choose from one of seven Ride locations, train with their local coach to achieve their mileage goal, no matter how long or short, and use the guidance and experience of their local chapter to meet and exceed their fundraising commitment.

The JDRF Ride isn't just a bike ride: it's where hundreds of riders come together from all over the world to make new friendships, experience the unparalleled comradery of the Ride community and raise money to find a cure for T1D.

Do I have to Ride 100 miles?

No! The JDRF Ride to Cure is about the mission, not the miles so there is no minimum length for any of our Rides. We encourage you to work with your JDRF coach to train for and achieve whatever mileage you would like to ride.

Will I have help as I train for the ride?

Yes! We have a team of national head coaches and local coaches that have professional certification and will help you create a training plan that meets your goals. A local or national coach will be with you every pedal stroke of the way, from your first training ride to Ride day.

Will I have help fundraising?

Yes! Every Rider has the support and help of the fundraising experts at their local chapter who are with them every step of the way, from the first donation to the day you exceed your minimum and increase your goal. In addition, the Ride program has a library of tools and tips that every registered rider has access to.

Isn't it hard to meet the fundraising requirement?

Not according to our past riders. Once you start contacting people, you will be surprised how quickly the money (and the admiration) rolls in. JDRF has created powerful online fundraising tools to make it easier for you to reach your goal, and your local JDRF chapter will help you with materials, ideas and support as you meet and exceed your goal.

Is there a fundraising minimum?

Yes, as a rider, you'll commit to a fundraising minimum (packages start at $2,000). In exchange, JDRF will provide you with support and coaching during the months leading up to as well as throughout the JDRF Ride weekend. In addition, some of the packages that we offer, include additional incentives, such as travel and lodging.

Is there a deadline for meeting my fundraising minimums?

Yes. We understand that this may be the most money you have ever attempted to raise, and you may feel unsure about whether you will be able to do it. If you follow the recommended guidelines and use the resources JDRF provides, you will be more successful than you think! Contact your JDRF Chapter for detailed information on fundraising schedules and timelines developed to help you reach your goals.

Does the $100 registration fee count towards my fundraising?

Yes! The $100 required registration fee will be the first donation to your Ride campaign.

Will I receive a JDRF Jersey?

Yes! All registered riders who complete their fundraising will receive a commemorative JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes jersey made by Hincapie Sportswear. Any T1D Rider will have the option to receive a special T1D version of this jersey instead, to inspire us all as you cross the finish line.

What is the time commitment?

How much time you spend training is entirely up to you. Your JDRF coach can help you determine the best time commitment for your fitness level to meet your cycling goals. If you are a novice, most coaches will recommend you begin training three months prior to your Ride and you ride at least twice a week to prepare.

What if I can't finish the Ride?

If you cannot continue at any point during the Ride, one of many support vehicles along the route will pick you up and bring you back. Rest stops will be set up approximately every 15 miles. If you are feeling tired, you can rest, eat an energy bar, drink a sports drink and continue the Ride where you left off. Remember, this is not a race, it's a ride, and all riders are encouraged to ride at their own pace.

Who can ride?

We have Riders are as young as 13 and as old as 89! You must be at least 13 years old and meet your fundraising commitment, in order to participate.

If you are between 13 and 18 years of age, you must sign a parental/guardian consent and be accompanied by a participating parent/guardian at all times.
