The JDRF Walk is JDRF's flagship fundraising program. Every year, more than 900,000 participants raise money to help JDRF fund type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and create a world without T1D.
Is there a registration fee?
For the majority of our Walks, there is no registration fee. All participants are encouraged to support the JDRF Walk through their own personal fundraising efforts or to make a personal donation.
Do I need to register ahead of time?
Yes, please. Registering online helps us to keep in touch with you on the latest JDRF and Walk news and information, and you'll gain access to great fundraising resources. It also allows us to plan ahead for refreshments, t-shirts, and volunteer staffing. You can register on the day of the Walk, but we strongly encourage anybody interested in the Walk to register earlier online.
I registered last year; do I need to register again this year?
Yes, all participants need to register every year. For your convenience, you can log in with the username and password you created last year. If you have forgotten your user information, simply click on the “Forgot User Name” or “Forgot Password” button and you will receive an email with login assistance.
Can I participate in the Walk if I am not on a team?
Yes. Many people choose to fundraise and walk individually though participating with friends, family, or co-workers multiplies the fun and brings everyone together for a great cause.
How can I join a team?
You can join an existing team when you register online or start a new team by registering as a team captain.
How can I find my local JDRF chapter?
JDRF has more than 100 chapters, branches, and affiliates worldwide. Please click here to locate your local JDRF chapter or call 888-533-9255 (WALK) for further information.
Is there a fundraising minimum?
There is no fundraising minimum. We encourage walkers to aim high when setting their personal fundraising goals.
Who should checks be made payable to?
All checks should be made payable to “JDRF.”
Do you accept employer matching donations?
Yes. Matching gift programs are an effective way to multiply the amount of money you raise for JDRF. Contact your human resources department for instructions on how to receive a matching gift from your employer. In most cases, all you need to do is fill out a simple form for JDRF to receive even more funds to help us cure, better treat, and prevent T1D.
Are donations tax-deductible?
Donations to JDRF are tax-deductible.
Do I raise money based on how far I walk?
No. Each walker asks for support through a flat donation to JDRF.
How do I get a JDRF Walk T-shirt?
Participants who have turned in donations of $100 or more on or before Walk day will receive an official JDRF Walk t-shirt.
Can I still fundraise if I can't attend the Walk?
Yes! We have a registration option that allows you to sign up as a “Virtual Walker.” This means you can't walk in person, but you will do a fundraising campaign and virtually “walk” to support JDRF.
How are the funds I raise for the Walk used?
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research. More than 80 percent of what we spend goes directly to fund T1D research and research-related education.
Can I fundraise after Walk Day?
Yes! Funds submitted within four weeks after Walk day are included in qualifying totals for individual fundraising rewards and team awards. Of course, funds raised after that will help us to cure, treat, and prevent T1D.
What kind of support will I receive?
JDRF chapter staff are available to help you every step of the way. We can provide helpful tools and resources to assist you with your fundraising as well as one-on-one assistance and guidance as needed.
What should I bring on Walk day?
Bring your completed walker donation form and walker collection envelope containing any checks and cash donations. We encourage you not to hold on to donations but to mail them to your JDRF Chapter with a walker donation form as you collect them.
How long is the route at a JDRF Walk?
Routes will vary depending on the location. A standard JDRF Walk is three miles, though they can range from one to five miles. Some have shorter routes for families and children that want to walk but may not be able to complete a longer route.
