Ways to Participate in the Walk

Walk on a team or on your own!

Walk Website Ways to ParticipateThe JDRF Walk offers many ways for people to get involved and help raise funds for T1D research. Many people walk alone, but others find it more enjoyable to raise money and walk as part of a team.

A team can consist of family, friends, coworkers, classmates, neighbors, or fellow volunteers—anyone who wants to have fun while helping JDRF fund T1D research! Many local businesses, companies, civic organizations, and schools form Walk teams as an effective way to foster teamwork and raise visibility in the community.

These are the two most common types of Walk teams:

Walk when and where you can!

Can’t make your local Walk this year? Want to participate on a loved one’s team in another state? No problem! Register as a virtual walker and join others fundraising to end T1D. Virtual walkers still have access to all of JDRF’s fundraising tools, tips, prizes, and more. Celebrate your fundraising achievement by walking in your neighborhood, on a treadmill, or even while on vacation! You’ll still be a part of the global movement to raise important funds for T1D research and support the millions of people living with T1D every day.

Your Participant Center makes it easy

When you register, you can select whether to walk as an individual, join an existing team, or form a new team. JDRF supports every walker every step of the way with fundraising tips and tools. We want your fundraising experience to be easy, creative, and successful!

Your Walk Participant Center will be your fundraising home. There, you will create a personal, team, or company fundraising page that you can customize with your story, pictures, and a video about why you’re helping people living with T1D.

In your Participant Center, you can send emails and track your fundraising progress. If you’re a team captain, you can also use it to send out reminder emails to keep your team on target and motivated for the Walk.

Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes

Walk Website - Ways to Participate - Kids WalkType 1 diabetes (T1D) is not just a kids’ disease, but it often strikes in childhood. The JDRF Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes offers schools a turnkey community service program that benefits children, their schools, and their communities.

The Kids Walk program is an educational, in-school fundraising program that has two goals:

  • Educate students about type 1 and type 2 diabetes and good health habits
  • Provide kids with an opportunity to make a difference by raising money for T1D research

By participating, your school can earn funds to use for equipment, field trips, books, or whatever your school needs! It’s fun, it’s easy, and it’s educational. And it’s all about kids helping kids! To learn more about holding a Kids Walk at your school, contact kidswalk@jdrf.org or go to kidswalk.jdrf.org.

Want to Volunteer?

JDRF owes its success in funding T1D research to the grassroots strength and support of our volunteers. With hundreds of events taking place each year, we rely on our amazing volunteers to help things run smoothly and safely.

Want to help out at a Walk or other JDRF event? Would you simply like to get more involved with your local JDRF chapter? Whatever your special skills and talents, there are many ways to get involved and help JDRF create a world without T1D.

Corporate participation

JDRF has many devoted local, national, and international corporate partners who support the work that we do. The Walk presents an opportunity for these partners to help JDRF and engage a large community of dedicated supporters.

If you’re a local company or business owner, consider forming a corporate Walk team or becoming a Walk sponsor. Donating T-shirts, advertising, or other services are also a great ways to give back to the community. And JDRF’s supporters like to support businesses that help fund T1D research!
