Hello! This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Ride to Cure Diabetes, along with hundreds of other riders across the country, to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it is difficult and life threatening. And they know it never goes away.
I became involved with JDRF several years ago when I was invited to a fundraiser hosted by several friends whose children had T1D. I was so moved by their stories I began helping with a variety of fundraising events and eventually was invited to join Delaware's JDRF Board in 2010. Since that time I have had the privilege to meet many other families struggling with this disease and hear their stories. Stories like watching your 5 year old decide whether or not to eat a piece of birthday cake knowing it would mean taking extra shots of insulin in his tummy later that night. Or consoling your daughter who had to sit alone at the school lunch table because the other kids thought she was contagious. Or being told by a doctor to say good-bye to your infant son lying listless from a diabetic coma because he probably wouldn't survive the ambulance ride to the hospital. It's these and other stories that touch my heart and deepen my commitment to find a cure for this disease.
This year I've decided to focus my fundraising efforts on a 100 mile bike ride taking place this July in Burlington Vermont. My dear friend and cycling mentor David King introduced me to this sport many years ago so it's in his honor, as well as all the families battling this disease, that I'll ride. I am asking for your support. Please donate to help reach my personal fundraising goal of at least $2000. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes.
Did you know that:
As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?
Thank you for your support!
