“Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride!” ~Unknown
This says a lot about the path we take when fighting for something that we believe in so passionately. This will be the third (3) year that I am riding in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes events and my 4th and 5th rides. In my three years I have ridden my bike in 8 states and have ridden over 5,000 miles on my quest and drive to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Although our mission is not done, which is why I continue my fight.
I do this all for my brave little boy Gavin (6) who is now in his 3rd year of living with T1D. Through everything he has to endure, the pokes, the late night juice boxes (which sometimes I think he secretly likes), the highs, the lows, to the many devices he must wear in order to survive, he is so happy and accepting of what this takes I could not be prouder of my little guy!
Well I am not as accepting!! I will continue to ride and fight until there is a day we have a cure! Gavin and the millions who live with this never get a break, 24 hours a day they must endure this disease and everything that goes along with it. So I will endure as I ride through the pain, the scrapes, the feeling of wanting to give up all the while knowing I will not! Not until he gets a break from his diabetes.
This year I am riding in Nashville, TN and Lacrosse, Wi. This will mark the first JDRF ride in Nashville and I could not be more excited. One thing that will make this even more special is my lovely wife Tammy will be riding alongside me in Nashville and Gavin will be there with his brother Blake waiting at the finish line for us.
I need your support and so do millions who live with T1D. Please consider donating to my personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes.
