I'm riding Death Valley in honor of Logan an 11 year old 6th grade student from New Paltz who was diagnosed on August 17th, 2009. He has been living with Type 1 Diabetes for 4 years now.
Last year, Logan volunteered to be a JDRF Ambassador. In this role his mission is to raise awareness of Type 1 Diabetes in his community. To get his message out, Logan has been interviewed by the local television news, has been on the Kingston Community Radio, and met with U.S. Congressional Representative Maurice Hinchey as part of the JDRF Advocacy program.
In May 2012 Logan was awarded his first degree blackbelt in Taekwondo. He has begun training for his second degree test in 2013. He continues to play on the New Paltz travel soccer team, and plays Town baseball.
Logan is doing his 5th Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation "Walk For a Cure" in Saugerties in September 2013 at Cantine Field. In 2011 and 2012, thanks to the generosity of friends, family, neighbors, co workers, and several corporate sponsors, he raised a little over $5,500 each year in sponsorships. Logan really appreciated the words of encouragement that sponsors wrote in their letters or on his web page.
Logan tries to raise more each year to do his part to help find a cure.
That's why I am dedicating my Ride to Cure Diabetes to be in honor of Logan.
Sincerely,
Melissa
