Please support in the fight to cure, better treat and prevent type 1 diabetes!
Hello! For the 5th year in a row, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Ride to Cure Diabetes. This year I will be riding in the inaugural Ride to Cure in Nashville, Tennessee, in September, as well as my 4th Ride to Cure in the heat of Death Valley, California, in October. I'll be riding 100 miles in Nashville, which will have the most climbing of any of the current six JDRF rides, and 105 miles in the heat of Death Valley. Those of you who have supported me in past years know that DV can present all sorts of problems to the uninitiated. I'm hoping that this year I'll put it all together and raise a ton to help fight type 1 diabetes (T1D), and finish both of these rides in good shape.
You may know that I have a personal connection to T1D. My niece, Kelly, shown in the picture to the right, was diagnosed with the disease when she was very young. She does not remember a time in her life when she didn't have to test her blood sugar by pricking her finger 6 or more times a day, when she didn't need several insulin injections a day to help her avoid dangerous high and low blood sugar readings, and when she (and her parents) didn't have to worry about everything she put in her mouth, to make sure the food in question was offset by the proper amount of insulin.
T1D is difficult and life threatening. And it never goes away. It is an autoimmune disease that comes on suddenly and strikes both children and adults at any age. it has *nothing* to do with diet or lifestyle.
I am asking for your support. Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes, including Kelly.
