Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!
The day that I write this is Meredith's 8th birthday. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes almost 6 years ago. She was just a little over 2 years old. She is my baby. And she lives with a chronic disease every day.
Every day she tests her blood sugar at least 6 times. Every day she gives herself insulin whenever she eats carbs. Every day she counts the carbs that she eats. Every day I help her do these things. She doesn't remember a time when this did not happen. She has no memories of life before T1D. I want to change that.
Meredith digs deep every day. To take care of herself and keep herself healthy. She has grown up faster in so many ways than her friends have. She asks if she can eat certain foods at certain times. She knows which foods are carb free and how to find carb counts on nutrition lables. Not many 2nd graders, or adults for that matter, would even think to do this before consuming food. Meredith doesn't know NOT doing it is an option.
JDRF is working very hard to cure T1D and improve the lives of those living with it. JDRF is my hope for Meredith to have a life free of this disease. She digs deep. So I will too. I have committed to riding a bike 100 miles in honor of my little girl. I will have to train hard, to fundraise like I never have before. There will be days that I won't want to do it. On those days, I will watch Meredith and know that she cannot take a day off, so neither will I. Meredith inspires me with her courage. I am so proud of her every single day. On ride day, I want her to be proud of me, too.
My 14 year-old son, Holden, has asked to ride with me, too. He, too, will train and fundraise for his sister. My heart was overflowing when he asked if he could ride too. He sees what his sister goes through and how it effects our family. He wants to make a difference. I am so proud of him. I hope that I can make him proud of me.
So I am asking you to help me. Donate to my ride. Every single dollar makes a difference. Every single donation is appreciated more than you will ever know. I have two HUGE tasks in front of me. One is to get in the best physical shape of my adult life and ride 100 miles on a bike in 1 day. The other is to meet my fundraising goal and help Holden meet his. This will not be easy. But nothing worthwhile ever is. I will dig deep for Meredith and for her cure. I ask you to help me.
Thank you, in advance, for your support.
