UPDATE 5/6 from Amy Mom:Yesterday, Simon completed his second training ride with the West Michigan JDRF team, and let me tell you: he upped his miles from 7 at the first to 18. Having a bike that fit him has something to do with it (a big thanks to a kind team member for the loaner!), and yet Simon gets a lot of credit for more than doubling his personal best. See my page for Mom's personal take on this!
UPDATE 4/28 from Mom:
Last week, Simon's teacher nominated him as a CARE student (Caring, Achieving, Responsibe, Enthusiastic) for raising money for diabetes. I can tell he's kind of proud, as are we! In a similar program at the elementary level, the school secretaries nominated Theo for patience; they've said he impresses them day after day as he endures different people giving him shots, or waiting through a low blood sugar, with grace. It's not easy to allow yourself to receive from others, but Theo is a model, and we're learning from him as we receive all these donations from kind people like you.
UPDATE 3/26 from mom again:
Just wanted to report on an amazing discovery of last week. You read that Simon is selling his homemade comics at school to raise money for diabetes, right? Well, a friend of his decided to make some duct tape wallets, sell them to friends, and give all the proceeds to Simon for diabetes. A 12-year-old boy! The generosity of these kids amazes me.
UPDATE 3/20 from mom:
Simon's beating me! But that's okay--we're in this together (despite what he may think). I'm very proud of Simon; he's been raising money by selling his comics at school, and has already made over $50. Today he left for school with a plan to go on the morning announcements (the principal invited him) and advertise, so we tried to make sure he combed his hair before he left.
Theo's been doing his part, too: He memorized pi for money. He had already learned 141 digits, so he added twenty more and brought in well over $400. Check out his awesomeness here:

As of today, we're about halfway there--between the two of us, we've earned about $3000, which is just short of amazing. But there's still another 3K to go, so please help if you can. Thanks!

Hello, and my name is Simon. This year, the day after my 13th birthday, I wiil be riding 30 miles in Wisconsin. I will need your support to raise $3000 to get me there, and the money will go towards T1D. My brother, Theo, is diabetic. He gets shots 4 or more times a day, and gets pricked about the same amount. When he is low, he gets candy, wich is unfair. If people find a cure for diabetes, he will be happy beacause WE CAN EAT PANCAKES!!!! So, support us so we can buy pancakes. Ummm.... I mean... A cure for diabetes. All kidding aside, we need that cure for diabetes!!!
