This year, I'll be taking part in my 11th JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, along with hundreds of other riders across the country., as we try to reach our goal of raising $5 million.
My son Chad and I have completed 10 rides (9 Death Valley and One Killington Vt) and are heading back to DEATH VALLEY again in October of 2013... Two years ago we added a new rider to our family team... my daughter Melissa... and she is returning to Death Valley with us for her 3rd ride... last year we raised over $12,000 and we have set our 2013 goal at $12,000 as well.
As in prior years - I am riding in honor of Amanda Molloy. I met Amanda at a JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes a few years ago. Her Walk Team was called Amanda's Army. The entire team wore pink t-shirts that said "We are Amanda's Army". Amanda was wearing a pink t-shirt that said "Hi - I'm Amanda - and this is MY ARMY". Her big smile won me over and I asked if I could RIDE in Death Valley in her honor. This year I am riding in her honor again... hoping to improve her future as we raise $$$ to CURE DIABETES.
Amanda was diagnosed in, 2005 at the age of 3. She is now 11 years old and is a 5th grade student at St. Augustine School in New City, NY.
She is active in gymnastics, dance, girl scouts, plays the clarinet in the school band and loves just hanging out with her friends. She is a loving and caring little girl who annually donates birthday presents to local charities like the animal shelter or Friends for Karen (a non-profit that offers services to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families).
Now you can see why I ride in her honor... please consider making an online donation today. Remember - there IS a CURE and TOGETHER we WILL find it !!!
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality - for Amanda and both of "my kidz" - Chad and Melissa (riding in DV with me in 2013).
Cheers
Charlie (aka as DAD )
