Welcome to My Personal Page

Hello All,

I am once again participating in this year's JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes. Riding each of the past two years has given me a great sense of accomplishment. Riding 100 miles last year was a true achievement for me personally but pales in comparison to the generosity you have shown to help us find a cure for Type I Diabetes.  This year's ride will be very important as it will help bring us ever closer to finding a cure.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a disease you never outgrow. Children, teens, and adults with type 1 diabetes not only have to face the everyday challenges of managing their disease at work and home, they also have to deal with lack of awareness from the general public (see myths and facts at bottom of page).

We are fortunate our daughter Taryn continues to be extremely diligent. She monitors her blood sugar level on average of ten times a day (18,250 finger pricks in 5 yrs) and adjusts her insulin needs as necessary. We are so proud of our beautiful 19 year old daughter. A sophomore at University of Massachusetts, she excels in school and her joie de vie is contagious. Yet her daily burden, her fears and her future are something none of us can comprehend.

Three years ago I made a personal commitment to raise money for JDRF because we need to find a CURE. Hopefully, this will come sooner rather than later but we must continue to fund the research. My goal will be to ride every year until a cure is found. Once again I am lucky to have a team of friends join me on this mission. My goal is 100 miles; Burlington to Middlebury and back on July 14th.

I'm asking you to help support my fundraising effort. Please donate!! Your tax-deductible gift will help make a difference in the lives of people with type 1 diabetes. Vermont here I come. Thanks

It is faster and easier than ever to donate. Simply click on this link.

If you prefer, you can mail your gift check to me at the address listed below. Please make the check payable to JDRF and include my name in the Memo section.

Any amount, great or small, helps JDRF get closer to its goal of finding better treatments and a cure for type 1 diabetes. I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

myth: Diabetes is caused by obesity, or eating too much sugar.

fact: While obesity has been identified as one of the "triggers" for type 2 diabetes, it has no relation to the cause of type 1 diabetes. Scientists do not yet know exactly what causes type 1 diabetes, but they believe that both genetic and environmental factors are involved. Eating too much sugar is not a factor.

myth: Taking insulin cures diabetes.

fact: Taking insulin keeps people with type 1 diabetes alive. Just to survive, people with type 1 diabetes must take multiple injections of insulin daily or continually infuse insulin through a pump. Over time, excess sugar (hyperglycemia) permanently damages blood vessels in the eyes, kidneys, hands, feet, and heart, leading to complications such as blindness, amputation, stroke, kidney and heart failure.
