"Hike and Bike with Mike" in his fight to cure, better treat and prevent type 1 diabetes!

Training in Florida!

Join Michael Sevila and Team "Are We There Yet?" as we Walk and Ride to Cure type 1 diabetes!

BREAKING NEWS! Thanks to all of you I have passed my fundraising goal!  I plan to keep going in the hopes that from now until ride day I can go way above and beyond what I originally thought was a "stretch" goal!  You are the best!  Big Thanks to those of you that walked with us in DC on April 21st.  Team "Are We There Yet?" was well represented in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes with nearly 50 people wearing the official Hike and Bike with Mike shirts!  Thank you for helping me to make a difference for so many people with T1D!

As a recently diagnosed individual with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), I am putting together a team of friends and family to help me raise money towards finding a cure for T1D.  This year we participated in the Walk to Cure Diabetes in DC on April 21, 2013 (my 13th birthday!) with thousands of other people in an effort to raise money and awareness for T1D.  It was great to see so many people out supporting those of us in the T1D community.

Later this summer (July 27, 2013), my Dad and I will be taking part in JDRF's Ride to Cure Diabetes.  We will be riding with with hundreds of other riders across the country to improve the lives of all people affected by T1D.

My team name "Are We There Yet?" was inspired of course by many family road trips!  I'm sure my dad and I will be asking it again and again during our 100 mile bike ride - but the real reason for the team name is that we will continue to ask that question until we ultimately find the cure for Type 1 diabetes....and although they have made tremendous progress in the treatment and diagnosis, we're just not there yet when it comes to preventing or curing it.

We are asking for your support as we train and prepare for the 100 mile ride this summer in Burlington, VT. Please donate through this site and help us with our fundraising efforts.  By doing so, you can help us make a difference for millions of people like me living with type 1 diabetes.

Please also be sure to check to see if your company has a matching gifts program!

If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it is difficult and life threatening.  And they know it never goes away.  Did you know that:

    • T1D is an autoimmune disease that comes on suddenly and strikes both children and adults at any age?
    • T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle?
    • Those living with T1D must carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night?
    • Those living with T1D must test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood 6 or more times a day?

As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D.  JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered.  Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?

    Thank you for your support!

    Sincerely,

Michael Sevila - JDRF Junior Ambassador and Captain of Team "Are We There Yet?"
