As many of you know, our daughter Christine has been living with Type 1 Diabetes since she was two years old. She will be insulin dependent for the rest of her life. Our family continues to learn more about diabetes and the lifestyle changes living with the disease requires. Christy continues to amaze us. She is a daily reminder to all of us of courage, spirit, responsibility and a positive attitude.
Christy is now 11 years old (WOW!) and will be entering 6th grade in the fall. Christy continues to do fabulously on her pump and is becoming more and more independent with her diabetes care. She just returned from diabetes camp and made a lot of great friends and learned a lot including inserting her own pump infusion site. Christy continues to love her sports, especially basketball and soccer. Her basketball team won multiple tournaments this year and finished 8th at the State Tournament (Daddy was coach J). Soccer is in full swing now where she plays defense and keeper and they have won their fair share of tournaments too. Having diabetes certainly hasn’t slowed her down at all!
With Christy as my inspiration, this year I’ll be donning spandex again to ride in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Ride to Cure both in LaCrosse as well as the even more challenging ride through Nashville, Tennessee. . The Nashville ride is a new ride this year with what I hear is some pretty hilly terrain! In each ride, I'll be joining hundreds of other cyclists riding 100 miles in one day. We will spend hundreds of hours training our bodies for the event. I ride with the belief that with every mile pedaled and every dollar raised, we are closer to a cure. That is why I'm asking for your support. Our goal is to raise $5 million to fund research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications.
Researchers now more than ever are hopeful they will find a cure for diabetes in Christy’s lifetime! I'm writing to ask for your support because each of us can make a real difference. Together, we can make the cure for diabetes a reality.
Thank you for helping me meet my fundraising goal. Together we can support the research to find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes to help Christy and other children like her live with the disease.
