LESS UNTIL NONE!  This is a new JDRF motto and it represents the JDRF mission to lesson the daily burden of living with type 1 diabetes until a cure can be found.

2013 marks a big year in my diabetes life as this is the year when I will cross the threshold and start living with type 1 diabetes longer than I lived without it.  I was diagnosed in 1997 at the age of 16 and so much about diabetes management has changed since then.  I now manage my diabetes with an insulin pump (http://www.myomnipod.com/) and a continuous glucose montior (http://www.dexcom.com/) and a couple years ago I started taking another injectible, Symlin (https://www.symlin.com/), which is another hormone in addition to insulin that my body no longer produces naturally.

I recently attended a Research Summit where I was able to listen to the research team from the University of Virginia who thanks in part to funding from JDRF is starting outpatient trials on the ARTIFICAL PANCREAS!!  http://www.medicine.virginia.edu/administration/office-of-the-dean/school-news/2012-jan-jun/artificial-pancreas-approved

Last year I had the opportunity to wear their Artificial Pancreas System on two separate occassions and let me tell you, when this gets to market it will be life changing for the millions living with type 1 diabetes.

I did not participate in a Ride to Cure last year as I had my hands full setting into my new house, but I'm back and fully commited to raising the funds necessary to continue this exciting research.

Please help me raise the $4,000 I need to attend the 2013 Ride to Cure Diabetes in LaCrosse, WI!

Words can never express how much the support of my friends and family means in my journey with type 1.  This disease is relentless, a beast that has to be tamed every day, and knowing that you are there with me makes a huge difference.

No amount is too small, every donation makes a difference.

Join me in the fight to cure, better treat and prevent type 1 diabetes!

    Did you know that:

    • T1D is an autoimmune disease that comes on suddenly and strikes both children and adults at any age?
    • T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle?
    • Those living with T1D must carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night?
    • Those living with T1D must test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood 6 or more times a day?

As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D.  JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered.  Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?

    Thank you for your support!
