Nashville Ride to Cure 2013
My jDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes tattoo

Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!

I want to thank everyone for their support over the years.  In the past six years, I have participated in the JDRF's Ride to Cure Diabetes in Death Valley, Burlington, Nashville and Tuscon.  This year, my plan is to ride in Lake Tahoe and Death Valley.  I will also be riding with the Hope on 2 Wheels Team to bring awareness to JDRF's Ride to Cure Diabetes program.

I’m taking part in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, along with hundreds of riders from around the world, to raise money for JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.

    Did you know T1D:

    - Strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle.  I was diagnosed with T1D 26 years ago at the age of 11.  Over these 26 years, I have lived through thousands of insulin injections, thousands of finger pricks to test my blood sugar, thousands of infusion sets and CGM sensors.

    - Occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Insulin is essential to turning food into energy.

     - Requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.  I now rely on an insulin pump to keep the flow of insulin in my body.  I must test my blood sugar many times a day to decide how much insulin to inject and how much food to eat.  The technology of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors has made my life easier, but a cure is what we are looking and hoping for.

JDRF is working every day to change this. And every dollar I raise helps them continue to bring life-changing therapies from the lab to the community until a cure is found.

I have been hard at work training and fundraising, and your gift today will propel me toward the finish line. Please donate and help JDRF achieve its goal of a world without T1D.

Please check back to view my fundraising progress as my Ride weekend approaches. Thank you for your support.

I hope you will consider making a donation to my Ride to Cure Diabetes fund.  This has been a life changing event for me and I look forward to being able to participate in these events each year.  I am hoping that one year, this event will be the event that cured diabetes, but until then, please support JDRF and my Ride to Cure Diabetes.

If you wish to make a donation to JDRF by check, please mail to:  Karen Roth, 104 South Humes Street, Memphis, Tennessee, 38111
