Mak is on the Attack

Hey..... I'm Makenna Sinclair Missal. I'm 15, but by the time of the rides, I'll be 16. This year I'm riding in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Death Valley, California. I've done 2 previous rides. My first ride was in Burlington,Vermont. I was 13 and I did the full century and I did another in La Crosse the next year.

Honestly, I hate diabetes, but love riding. But I hate riding this hard and long. yet it is easier then living with T1D. The feeling of being on a bike for 8 or 9 hours is torture. But the feeling of getting off the bike and being surrounded by people who know how it feels to wake up at 3 am with a low blood sugar, to not be able to have the second piece of cake, the horrid feeling of extreme high blood sugar, its worth all the pain on the bike. You see the people you're helping by riding the bike.

If you asked me my inspirations for riding, I would have 2 answers. One is a girl around my age. Her name is Emily. Her friend has diabetes, but doesn't ride. Emily does. I think its awesome that Emily puts in the effort of doing a century ride for that friend. My other inspiration is one of the coaches at the rides, Mike Clark. Allow me to paint you a picture. I'm 11, and this is the first ride I've gone to. I wasn't riding. The day of the ride, it was pouring rain. We were standing in puddles up to the middle of my calf in some spots. I was volunteering at rest stop 1, before a 12 mile stretch of hills. Mike Clark rode up and down that hill all day, bring the people in, always smiling, always read to go back and help more. Seeing him, I knew i wanted to ride.

Please consider donting to either of my rides to help me reach my combined fund raising goal of $6,000.
