The 2012 cycling season ended with a serious crash in Death Valley California, but that isn’t stopping Team Altmann from getting back on our bikes and Riding for a Cure in 2013. We are asking for your support again.
Training for this year’s ride has already begun. Hundreds of miles have already been logged to prepare us for the grueling 100-mile, single-day journey from La Crosse, into Iowa and Minnesota, and back again to La Crosse on August 17.
Type 1, or juvenile diabetes can be a deadly disease. It affects millions of people--a large and growing percentage of them children. Insulin keeps people with type 1 diabetes alive, but it's NOT a cure. Along with the challenges of living with diabetes, there are many severe and/or fatal complications caused by the disease. But there is good news; a cure for type 1 diabetes is within reach. The JDRF funding and its leadership is associated with most major scientific breakthroughs in diabetes research.
Our children, Lily and Claire, are our inspiration. As children of a type 1 diabetic, their “risk of developing type 1 diabetes is 10 to 20 times the risk of the general population; the risk can go from 1 in 100 to roughly 1 in 10 or possibly higher,” according to Dr. James H. Warram of the Harvard School of Public Health and Joslin Diabetes Center. Help us raise funds to allow JDRF to continue to pursue a cure for juvenile diabetes.
We are writing to ask for your support because each of us can make a real difference. Team Altmann’s goal is to raise $10,000 by August 1, 2013. You can help by sponsoring Team Altmann with a tax-deductible donation to JDRF.
Together, we can make the cure for diabetes a reality.
Thank you in advance for your support.
