Let's ride bikes again and fight Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)!

Hannah with friends at Lambeau Field

Hello! Let's turn Type One into Type None!

It's that time of the year! In early September, I'll be taking part in my 10th consecutive JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes. The ride to cure is typically a 100-mile or 100-km one day ride to raise as much money as we can for a great cause.  This year, like last year, I am riding with a group in Lake Tahoe, California.  It's only 72 miles, but I promise to ride it hard!

I am riding for my daughter Hannah, who is now 17 years old and has been living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D, and often called Juvenile Diabetes as it frequently strikes children) for more than half her life. We work (especially my wife Cathy) to help Hannah manage this terrible disease and its side effects. About 4 to 6 insulin injections per day help her live a more normal life, but it is not a cure and T1D is still very cumbersome, disruptive and something that shortens her life expectancy.

JDRF is one of the most efficient charities in the world, so you can be sure that your donation will be put to good use!

    Did you know that…

    • T1D is an autoimmune disease that comes on suddenly and strikes both children and adults at any age?
    • T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle?
    • Those living with T1D must carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night?
    • Those living with T1D must test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood 6 or more times a day?

I am asking for your support. Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes.

Hannah is my primary inspiration to ride; there are too many other children who suffer from juvenile diabetes who serve as an inspiration. Unfortunately, over the past 2 decades, the incidence of Type 1 diabetes has increased at an alarming rate in children all over the world.

My goal is to raise $20,000, surpassing last year’s total of $18,000 when I was the top fundraiser.

The ride date is September 7th and I hope to receive your reply by August 28th.  Of course, JDRF can accept a donation at any time.

Thanks a bunch for considering and I hope we can earn your support!

    Take care.

    Pat
