Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!
I am taking part in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes in honor of Ben Etheridge and the more than $500,000 he has raised for Juvenile Diabetes Research. I have not done a Century Ride in over 20 years but am getting back on the saddle and hope you will support my efforts. This is the year I am moving beyond writing a check for Ben to riding beside him. Here is some information in Ben's own words:
I am riding for my twins, Megan and Trevor, who both have type 1 diabetes. Megan was diagnosed when she was 9 years old and Trevor was diagnosed five years later, at 14. They impress me everyday with the way they manage this challenging and complicated disease as busy college students. This past October was Megan's 10th year of living with diabetes. Our hope is that sometime in the next 10 years a cure will be found!
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) strikes both children and adults at any age. It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.
As the leader of the T1D community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat, and prevent T1D. In this role, JDRF has funded more than $1.6 billion in diabetes research since its founding in 1970, and has meaningfully advanced the T1D scientific frontier and the management of this disease.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!"
