For the 6th time I’m taking part in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes. Joining me this year in Tucson will be my dad (2nd time) and my Uncle (first time), along with hundreds of riders from around the world to raise money for JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.
Did you know T1D:
- Strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle. I was fortunate to be diagnosed relatively late at the age of 22, T1D is much more challenging for young children and their parents to manage.
- Occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Insulin is essential to turning food into energy.
- Requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin. JDRF focuses research funding on both a cure and management tools such as my Dexcom G4 continuous Glucose monitor, a huge advancement in monitoring blood sugar levels real time 24 hours a day.
JDRF is working every day to change all of this. Every dollar I raise helps them continue to bring life-changing therapies from the lab to the community until a cure is found.
Please donate today in support of my $3000 goal and help JDRF achieve its goal of a world without Type 1 Diabetes.
Thanks in advance for your support, any size donation is greatly appreciated and tax deductible!
