Hello! This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Ride to Cure Diabetes, along with hundreds of other riders across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising millions of dollars.
I will be riding for my 13 year old son, Kevin, who has been living with type 1 diabetes for over 6 years. Each day of his is filled with blood sugar testing and injections and carefully managed food intake. He occasionally asks me if there will ever be a cure and I tell him that I expect there to be one but many years down the road...we eagerly await that day.
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) strikes both children and adults at any age. It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of complications. It is something you never "grow out of".
As the leader of the T1D community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat, and prevent T1D. In this role, JDRF has funded more than $1.6 billion in diabetes research since its founding in 1970, and has meaningfully advanced the T1D scientific frontier and the management of this disease.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
