Join me in the fight to cure, better treat and prevent type 1 diabetes!
Hi! This year, my wife and I will both be taking part in JDRF's Ride to Cure Diabetes, in Death Valley California. It is a one day, 105 mile ride to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D).
We are asking for your support. Please donate to our personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help us make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes, along with our daughter.
On January 6th, 1998 our lives were changed forever. This was the day our daughter Julie was diagnosed with T1D She was just 7 years old when a lifetime of burdens and responsibility were first introduced to her, her family and friends. Although many people believe that insulin injections are a cure, they are not. There is no cure for T1D.
As you can imagine living with this diseases requires constant attention. To stay alive, Julie must continuously infuse through a pump, and prick her fingers. Each day, every day, and as of now, for the rest of her life she will have to carefully monitor food and insulin intake, as well as exercise to maintain a careful balance and avoid high or low blood sugar reactions that can be life-limiting or life threatening. What’s amazing to us is that in the 15 years that Julie has been afflicted with diabetes, she’s had her finger pricked more than 30,000 times to check her blood sugar and she’s received well over 17,000 insulin injections.
Since Julie’s diagnosis we are committed to and very involved with JDRF. JDRF raises vital funds that power the global movement to help cure, treat and prevent T1D. More than 80% of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. We have been a part of the Gala Committee, co-chairing for a few years, proudly becoming a second term JDRF board member, ran the Milwaukee Walk to Cure through Walgreens, and promoted the partnership with Walgreens in sponsoring the Walk this September, 2013.
The Ride for the Cure is our chance to help JDRF make a difference for all those with diabetes, including Julie. As of today, T1D is still very much a part of our lives. Our drive is that one day during her lifetime we will be able to tell our daughter that there is a cure. Wouldn’t today be a great day to know you made a difference and changed the world? Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?
Thank you for your support!
