Zachary Shapiro - Diagnosed at 13 months
Zachary Shapiro - Today at 16 years Old

Welcome to our JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!

Zachary and I will be taking part in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, along with hundreds of riders from around the world, to raise money for JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.

Zachary was diagnosed with T1D on May 15, 1999 when he was 13 months old.  At that time his doctor only had one patient who was diagnosed at a younger age (9 months old). Our lives have never been the same. In November of 2001, I participated in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes for Zachary when he was 3 1/2 years old.  This year, we (Zachary and I) will be riding together.  It is a tough ride with many ups and downs, but with your support and backing we will help conquer this disease!

    Did you know T1D:

    - Strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle

    - Occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Insulin is essential to turning food into energy.

     - Requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.

JDRF is working every day to change this. And every dollar we raise helps them continue to bring life-changing therapies from the lab to the community until a cure is found.

We have been hard at work training and fundraising, and your gift today will propel us toward the finish line. Please donate and help JDRF achieve its goal of a world without T1D.

Please check back to view our fundraising progress as our Ride weekend approaches. Thank you for your support.
