Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!
This is my 4th JDRF Ride--thanks to our family's new addition I had to skip last year. I am excited to join my JDRF Palmetto Chapter team once again and raise critical dollars for research. Some years I rode in honor of all the courageous individuals I knew living and thriving with the disease. My last ride I did in honor of a friend, Brad, that passed away in 2012. This year I will ride for another friend--one that I had not seen since college. During my maternity leave I learned that a college track teammate, a soldier, a strong and courageous woman lost her battle with type one. Penny was a hero on the battlefield and was diagnosed with type one after serving her country.
This year I will ride in memory of Brad and Penny but also I will ride for hope. The hope that the JDRF supported fast advancing research and technology will prevent such tragedies and continue to help those living with the disease thrive until type one is type NONE!
I’m taking part in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, along with hundreds of riders from around the world, to raise money for JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.
Did you know T1D:
- Strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle.
- Occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Insulin is essential to turning food into energy.
- Requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.
JDRF is working every day to change this. And every dollar I raise helps them continue to bring life-changing therapies from the lab to the community until a cure is found.
I have been hard at work training and fundraising, and your gift today will propel me toward the finish line. Please donate and help JDRF achieve its goal of a world without T1D.
Please check back to view my fundraising progress as my Ride weekend approaches. Thank you for your support.
