Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!

I’m taking part in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, along with hundreds of riders from around the world, to raise money for JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.

2013 was a year of highs and lows with the pinnacle being the JDRF ride in Tucson Arizona in November.  Despite the rain, wind and cold, the intrepid 4 from Hampton Roads braved the course and changed our lives.  The weekend experience shared with 199 riders and coaches from around the country is indescribable.  It reminds me that every day, an individual with T1D has a team supporting them - family, friends, corporations and medical professionals.  I was honored to be joined by Sean, Irene, Anne and Coach Paul - the first ride team from Hampton Roads.  We raised over $10,000 -  just the 5 of us.

The low was as profound and life changing as the high.  On Christmas Day one of my young patients with T1D became an organ donor.  One week before, he suffered a cardiac arrest at home and his father performed CPR until the paramedics arrived.  It was my privilege to be with them, as this amazing family decided to give the gift of life to others through organ donation.  I still think about Josh every day - his quirky smile, musicianship and warm heart.  Christmas Day for me will never be the same - it will always be associated with Diabetes and Josh.

I am committed to riding annually for as long as I am able to raise money to support research to prevent, treat and cure T1D.  My sister in law Donna and Josh, whose lives ended prematurely as a result of T1D are two among many who inspire me to continue to raise funds.

If your life has been touched by T1D please consider a donation.  No amount is too large or too small.  I also ask you to spread the word to your friends and relatives.  Please send them the link to and ask them to donate to me or the Hampton Roads Chapter.  The more money we raise the closer we get to making Type One  Type None.
