Hi family and friends!
I'm writing to ask for your support as I attempt to ride my bike with my dad through Death Valley, CA on October 19th. Our challenge is to ride up to 100 miles and to raise $8,000 in support of the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and their mission to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
As many of you know I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when I was 6 years old. I am now 13 which means I have lived with this disease for most of my life. It is a daily struggle as I have to check my blood sugar right when I wake up, at lunch, dinner, bed time, and many times in between. I also have to worry about how much insulin I need through my insulin pump whenever I have anything to eat. I have to constantly think about these things as I need to make sure I don't allow my blood sugar to go too high (could cause problems as I get older) or if my blood sugar goes too low (could lead to a seizure). So many things can happen including when my insulin pump catches on things or falls off. Especially when I'm at the beach swimming, the waves can cause my pump to fall off, which happened last weekend :). With that said, it would be amazing to find a cure for this disease. Not only for me, but for all the kids and adults living with Type 1 diabetes.
Again, please help support me and my dad as we take on the challenge of riding up to 100 miles through Death Valley, CA. With your support we can get closer to finding a cure for me and the millions of other people who are living with Type 1 diabetes.
Thank you!
