Hi, my name is Cameron Crouse and I am twelve years old. I have been living with type one diabetes since I was two. I just celebrated my 10th year of living with diabetes. Since I was diagnosed, I have been very active with the JDRF. My Walk Team, Cameron's Crew, did its first walk in 2003. I do a really cool fundraiser at my school called "Put a Cap on Diabetes" that raised money for the JDRF and my Gala.
Diabetes is a disease that requires me to check my blood sugar 10 times and take 5 insulin shots daily, but this doesn’t slow me down. I participate in many sports, including football, baseball, basketball, and track. I play the violin in my school orchestra and am a Co-Vice President and Honor Roll student at my middle school. I ran my first ½ marathon with my dad in February. But no matter what I’m doing, I love to be with my friends and family, and my dog Hokie.
2013 is a big year for me because it is the ten year anniversary of my diagnosis of diabetes. I wanted to commemorate this milestone differently. The first thing I did was apply to JDRF Children's Congress and was chosen as one of two delegates from Alabama to join 150 children in DC to raise awareness and help secure funding in the treatment, prevention, and cure of diabetes. Participating in the JDRF Nashville Ride is the other major thing I am trying. I am excited for this challenge and thankful for your support.
I thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you remember, every dollar counts in our path to finding a cure.
