Dear Friends,
As most of you know, my son, James, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in September of 2011. Every minute since that day we have thought about diabetes, lived diabetes, worried about diabetes, and hated diabetes. It is manageable, yes, but it literally threatens his life every day. James is amazingly tough and brave about it for a kid so young, but it is something that follows him wherever he goes. When asked by his kindergarten teacher what his big wish was he said ?that there is no such thing as diabetes.? No kid should have to have that as their ultimate wish!
So, I am doing my part to help make that wish come true for James. The JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) has played a pivotal role in the advancement of diabetes research, including funding most major scientific breakthroughs in the field. Through the work that JDRF does, James has a chance to live a better life than the diabetics before him. One of their major fundraising events is the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes (ride.jdrf.org). This year I have committed to riding many, many miles for James, and for JDRF. Riders from around the world take on the challenge of raising the very crucial research money, and the challenge to train for a challenging cycling event in the name of JDRF. It will be hard, emotionally and physically, but it is the small price that I can pay to help find a cure. On November 23rd 2013 I will be riding in Tucson, Arizona along with many other cyclists who want nothing more than to cure this disease.
Please, please, join me and so many other in the fight! Every dollar we raise gets me that much closer to being able to tell James that his wish has come true. Any amount you are able to contribute is very much appreciated. To make a tax deductible contribution you can visit my fundraising page or give it directly to me. Don't give until it hurts. Give until it feels GOOD. :)
Thank you so much for your love and support. I truly believe that better treatments and a cure are out there for James, and so many like him. I know we can make a difference together.
Sincerely,
Diane Owen
