Team Vitol @ last year's finish in Tahoe!

    Dear Friends,

Team Vitol will return to Lake Tahoe on Sep 7th to defend our Yellow Jersey!  We are riding the gorgeous but challenging 72mile course around Lake Tahoe in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Jason Volz, our team captain, lost his mother to the disease when he was 21 years old. She died at age 43 after a decade long battle.  Jared & Brian have young nieces recently diagnosed, and Adam has two aunts living with this disease.  Our 12 person team has come together to raise $50k and to defend our yellow jersey.  Please support us as we fight to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

JDRF is the world leader in funding research and bringing products to market for the treatment of T1D.  Forbes rates JDRF one of the top 5 'all star' charities for their cost efficiency, with >85% of funds going directly to research grants.  T1D is an auto-immune disease in which the body attacks the pancreas, killing off all insulin producing cells.  Without insulin, the body cannot metabolize glucose...the body's source of energy.  At this point diabetics begin a race for their own lives, in an attempt to control blood sugar levels by insulin injection.  Sugar levels too high cause nerve damage and eventual failure of the eyes, kidneys, limbs, GI tract, etc.  Sugar levels too low can cause coma and death.

JDRF is currently funding clinical trials on three breakthrough inventions which will dramatically change the quality and longevity of life for diabetics.  The 'artificial pancreas' - essentially an implanted feedback loop of a glucose monitor and insulin pump, received FDA approval for it's first version already this year.  Smart insulin and encapsulated beta cell transplants, are entering phase I of trials as you read this letter.  Medical science is NOW at a point to eliminate much of the hardship, if not the disease itself, during our lifetime.   Our goal is to help fund the three above intentions fully to market by 2020.

As your friends and colleagues, we ask for your support in raising funds for this cause. Our goal is to raise a minimum 50k$ and we need your help doing it.

    Thank you for your support!
