Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!
Once again, I’m taking part in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, along with hundreds of riders from around the world, to raise money for JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.
This year's ride has some special significance for me. My dad was probably one of my biggest Ride fans. He was always asking how my training was going. He would call to check on me during training rides. On Ride day, he was the first person to call me in the morning and cheer me on. He wanted to hear from me at each rest stop and wanted to know how I was doing. He was always impressed by my efforts - "really, 100 miles in one day?!!?" When I finally completed a whole 100 miles in LaCrosse two years ago, I stopped about a mile from the finish line to call my dad. In tears, I told him that I was actually going to make it. I could tell how proud he was. A few months ago, my dad passed away. It just might not be the same to cross the finish line without those calls along the way. But I know he is still proud and still watching my progress. This year's ride is in memory of my dad, Jack, my biggest fan!
My fund raising efforts are for the millions of people who live each day with T1D, a disease that is difficult to manage and can result in life threatening, life altering and even deadly complications. It seems impossible to think that people die of diabetes with such advances in medicine. But they do. Each day, complications take the lives of people with type 1. Each day high or low blood sugar episodes that are undetected result in sudden death. It's time ot stop this disease in its tracks.
That's why I Ride and that's why I'm writing today to ask you for your support. JDRF funds the most groundbreaking research around the world, bringing life-changing therapies from the lab into the hands of patients until there is a cure. Perhaps even more importantly, JDRF works to prevent this disease. With JDRF's continued leadership made possible by your support, diabetes will be the first chronic disease that is cured and erradicated. With your generous gift, you'll be part of that momentous story.
I have been hard at work training and fundraising, and your gift today will propel me toward the finish line. Please make your tax deductible gift today. We'll put it to excellent use with the highest efficiency.
Thanks for your consideration and your support.
