Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!
It is that time of year again and I can really use your help! Participating in the JDRF Ride to Cure in support of my beautiful niece Alex is my way to support a wonderful young girl and all those who live with type 1 diabetes 24/7. After last year's ride all I can say is WOW - the experience was life changing. Having been involved with other organizations in the past and experiencing firsthand the struggles of those with disabilities, I thought I had experienced life changing, but the 2013 Ride to Cure weekend surpassed any past experience.
The ride exceeded every expectation I had and not only was I humbled by it, but I was inspired, tried, tested, loved, pushed, hugged, banged up, exhilarated, pushed out of my comfort zone, discovered lifelong friends and reached a milestone in my life that I never thought I could by crossing the finish line and completing the full 100 mile ride. But that is not the best part, I did this while never losing site as to why I was there and what the JDRF mission was for the weekend – to turn Type One into Type None.
Now it is time to do it again! This year in support of Alex and "Kick Betes for Alex", I will be participating in the Burlington, Vermont ride on July 26th! A few Type One diabetes tidbits:
- Strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle.
- Occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Insulin is essential to turning food into energy.
- Requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.
JDRF is working every day to change this. And every dollar I raise helps them continue to bring life-changing therapies from the lab to the community until a cure is found.
I have been hard at work training and fundraising, and your gift today will propel me toward the finish line. Please donate and help JDRF achieve its goal of a world without T1D.
Please check back to view my fundraising progress as my Ride weekend approaches. Thank you for your kind support and generosity and being part of something larger than yourself - know you are instrumental in turning Type One into Type None!
