Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!
Thanks for visiting my personal page to donate or just hear my stoy. This is my first time participating in a long road ride or raising money for type 1 diabetes (T1D).
My involvement began about 6 months ago when one of my best friends w/ diabetes asked me to participate in a century ride to raise money for diabetes research. It sounded like a great idea, but honestly, I was skeptical. Could we put in the time to complete all the training? Could we finish a 100+ mile road race? I had a lot of concerns and wasn't totally convinced this was going to happen. But the one thing we have done is ride. And the great thing about riding w/ someone is you talk. A lot. You talk not only during the ride, but while planning the routes and when having coffee or drinks after rides. I have been known to talk about gear/gadgets. All of this has given me a tiny window into what someone w/ diabetes has to do to manage this disease. I learned a lot about diabetes throughout my medical training. But reading about diabetes or seeing kids w/ diabetes in clinic is very different than stopping during a ride or dinner or a concert to check you blood sugar. I am proud by what my friend has decided to take on with this ride and fundraising. But I am more impressed by what he appears to seemlessly manage all these years I've known him. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
Well I'm paying attention now. And I'm committed to this ride and our fundraising goal.
I have three months of training and fundraising left until Tucson. The rides will continue and I will be updating this site every time I reach a new milestone. But I could use your help w/ fundraising or some words of support by email/text. Know that your donations will bring life-changing therapies from the lab to the community until a cure is found.
Please check back to view my fundraising progress as my Ride weekend approaches. Thank you for your support.
