Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!

Welcome to my personal Team JDRF to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!

2013 has been an eventful year for me, with both monumental highs and lows. I was lucky enough to discover a passion for running in 2012 that led me to complete my first marathon in 2013. It was incredibly rewarding and challenging at the same time. During this training I was faced with a challenge of a different kind. Desmond, my son, only 4 at the time, was rushed to the hospital on Valentine's Day and diagnosed with type 1 juvenile diabetes.

The staff at CHOP were wonderful and they were able to provide us with so many resources. The organization that stood at the forefront was the JDRF. They welcomed us to the type 1 community with a backpack full of literature and a bear that really was able to reach out to Desmond on his level, and explain what was happening in his body without overwhelming or scaring him. It was truly incredible and helpful.

On January 12, 2014, I have the opportunity to dedicate 26.2 miles to one of my most special motivators that gets me out everyday and continue a healthy lifestyle, so that he may learn the benefits of exercise and nutrition and not come face to face with some of the scary outcomes that diabetics sometimes meet while raising funds for the organization that helped ease the burden during a hard time. I can only support their research for a cure, so that one day parents won't need to seek out their assistance.

I have joined Team JDRF to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.

Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.

JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.

Please support me and donate to my fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?

Thank you for your support!
