Greetings all and welcome to my Team JDRF to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
As many of you are well aware, I am crazy. Crazy about Disney, crazy about running, and most recently crazy for having signed up to participate in the Inaugural Dopey Challenge at the Walt Disney World Resort in January 2014: 48.6 miles in 4 days including a 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, and Marathon. Why have I decided to push myself and run farther than the 26.2 mile journey that is crazy enough in itself? It is because I have chosen to run in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as a part of Team JDRF!
T1D is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly (having nothing to do with diet, nor genetics) and changes life as they know it forever. Blood sugar levels must be monitored frequently each day in addition to injecting insulin before meals and counting carbohydrate intake. T1D cannot be prevented and there is no cure...yet.
Though most Type 1 diabetics would never consider themselves heroes, I am always amazed at how each one, young or old, manages to lead a "normal" life despite the obstacles T1D puts in their way. It is in honor and support of these individuals and their families that I run in effort to raise money to help Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)* fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
I acknowledge many of you already contribute to several worthy causes, yet I hope you will consider supporting me in my crazy/dopey 48.6 mile* effort to bring JDRF closer to a cure for the millions affected by this life-threatening disease. Any amount you are able to give be it $1, $5, $20, $ky is the limit is greatly appreciated (and tax deductible)!
Thank you so much! Love and hugs, Tasha (aka "Minnie Mouse")
