Please help me in supporting a world without diabetes!

Hi Friends,

Something I usually don't share with others is that my health has always been a bit of a struggle.  You may be surprised since I seem healthy on the outside.  However, I have dealt with pancreatic problems personally throughout my life and I continue to have "flare-ups".  Diabetes has run in both sides of my family and has had a genetic impact on my own health.

My father tests his blood sugar every day is currently managing on pills.  My father and our family has lived with a concern for his health in regards to this issue for many years. Luckly, he has been able to control it to keep it at type2.

I could be prone to diabetes easily if I do not take care of myself in a serious manner.  If the truth be known, this has been a major contributing factor that threw me into a life concerned with healthy eating, juice cleansing, regular exercise, running and yoga.  My organs just don't have the same strength as others' do.

So, this year I have decided to participate in the Birkebeiner X-Country ski race through a diabetes fund-raising organization.  The race is Feb. 22nd, 2014.  I have never done it before and just got into X-C skiing in the past couple of years, so it will be a challenge.

It is meaningful to me to dedicate this race to my father who deals with this issue every day of his life, to exemplify my support of those dealing with diabetes and health issues to raise money towards a cure, and also to provide a true physical challenge for myself as I continue on my own journey to keep myself healthy and on the right track.

Hence, I have joined Team JDRF to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.

Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.

JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.

Please support me and donate to my fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF today?

I appreciate your support!

Sincerely,

Tara Nolan
