Why does our family walk? That's simple. We walk for Anna Catherine. A little more than 3 ½ years ago, Anna Catherine was diagnosed with T1D. At that time, we didn't know anyone with diabetes. We felt really alone. So we reached out to JDRF with the hope of finding others who understood.
Diabetes is hard. Anna Catherine will not grow out of it. It's serious. It's complicated. It wreaks havoc in her body. It's there on Christmas. And Easter. And birthdays. It’s there on vacation. It's there in the middle of the night. We need a cure. And we need it now.
Raising money and walking helps JDRF fund research to treat, prevent, and cure T1D. Walk day is also about honoring Anna Catherine and the millions of people like her living with T1D. Walk day is our chance to make her feel loved, to acknowledge her struggles, and to celebrate her triumphs. Yes, I walk for my child, but I also walk for yours and for all the children with diabetes who are now adults. I walk for a cure, and I hope you’ll walk, too.
