Hey! I am so exicted about the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes! Every person has a story to share about why they walk and funraise for JDRF. Here's my story:
Why does my family walk? It is simple. We walk for our son, Thomas. A little more than a year ago, Thomas was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. At that time, we did not know anyone with diabetes and really knew very little about it. We felt alone and overwhelmed. So we reached out to JDRF and found others who understood. I am glad Thomas gets to see and meet other kids with T1D at the Walk.
Diabetes is hard. Thomas will not grow out of it. It is serious, complicated, and it wreaks havoc in his body. It is there on his birthday when he wants to eat cake and icecream. It is there on Halloween when trick or treating. It is there in the classroom and at church when others get candy. It is there in the middle of the night when no one is awake. We need a cure.
Raising money and walking helps JDRF fund research to treat, prevent, and cure T1D. Walk day is also about honoring Thomas and the millions like him living with T1D. Walk day is our chance to make our son feel loved, to acknowldge his struggles, and to celebrate his triumphs. I walk for a cure, and I hope you'll walk too!
