Dear Family, Friends and Colleagues,
This year Brody marked some big milestones: He started the third grade, he turned 8 year, he pitched his first baseball game and on June 4th Brody lived more of his life with Type 1 diabetes than without. Brody was diagnosed just after his 4th birthday, and so began our journey of finger sticks, insulin injections, resuscitation from hypoglycemia, insulin pumps site changes, ketone monitoring, 2 am sugar checks, and many other daily tasks that go along with this dreaded disease. Type 1 diabetes affects our entire family. We are always on the look out for blood sugars that are too high or too low, and we fight with this disease everyday to keep Brody complication free.
Brody recently asked me if I could pull up Google on our computer... when I asked what he wanted to search for he said "I want to look for a cure for diabetes". He wanted to make sure that his doctors hadn't missed anything. I told Brody that we wouldn't find his cure on the internet but there is a way to help scientists find a cure. We WALK with JDRF! We talked about how scientific research is what will help us find a cure, and that we want to help fund that research. That was the day that Brody's Coyotes was formed this year. We had previously walked with TMC's team, but Brody wanted his own team and his own contribution towards finding a cure for the disease that he lives with day in and day out.
Thank you for your support, and we'll see you on Walk day!
