Hi, my name is Erandi Ortiz I am 18 years old, and I'll like to share with you a short version of the story of my diagnosis. I was diagnosed on April of 2005 at the Banner Desert hospital in Mesa, AZ. I was immediately hospitalized since I was on the edge from entering a diabetic coma, I stayed at the hospital for a week and being only 9 years old at that time I was not able to fully understand why I couldn't go home, or more importantly why my fingers were being poked, why I was receiving multiple shots a day, why I had to count carbohydrates before eating, or why I had to take pills every morning. It wasn't until I was discharged and stepped out of the hospital that it finally hit me; my life will never be the same. Now eight years later, I have learned that life continues, and I have also learned that I want to make a difference in the lifes of type one diabetics. I have started making that difference by participating in the walk to cure type one diabetes, and I plan on making a bigger difference once I become a pediatrician endocrinologists. Although becoming a pediatrician endocrinologists will take time, I am willing to put in all my effort, because I know for a fact that, that helping out children is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Overall, the journey has been tough, but I am thankful and bless to have my supporting family by my side through the process. And I am thankful for having my team, and I cannot wait for this years walk to take place!
I want to thank you for visiting my personal page. I am super excited to once again be part of the Walk to Cure Diabetes for type one diabetes. My team and I have been participating in this walk for over five years now, and each year we love to have new members come and form part of our team. With that being said, if you would like to join my team, please click on the dark blue tab on the right hand corner labeled; "Join My Team." You can also click the tab on the bottom of that one, labeled; "View my Team page" to check out my team and to also donate to the team.
THANK YOU all so much, your support means a lot!
