Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
I was diagnosed in 2007 with Type 2 diabetes. I found out after having multiple infections occur on my hands and neck. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and causes blood glucose or sugar levels to rise higher than normal. This is also referred to as hyperglycemia. My body does use insulin properly. At first my pancreas makes extra insulin to make up the fact that I am insulin resistant. But, overtime my pancreas is not able to keep up and make enough insulin to keep my blood glucose at normal levels.
Diabetes whether it is Type 1 or Type 2 is a dangerous and agonizing disease to have. My experience has been an up and down battle. With infections that lead to hospitalization to having to watch what I eat to the of pricking my fingers several times a day to see where my glucose level is at and the medications that make me sick to my stomach sometimes, I wish no one to have this disease.
It is why I have joined JDRF to walk the 5K on November 2, 2013 to earn funds to continue to find cures for those of us with diabetes. Advancement to a cure is coming and we need to continue funding to make the cure a reality.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
