Hello friends and family! Thank you so much for taking the time to read Ethan's story, and why JDRF is such an important cause to our family.
On September 11th, 2009 our son Ethan, who was one month away from turning 2 years old, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. We had been on a family vacation several days before where I noticed Ethan was drinking bottle after bottle of water, and was wetting through his diapers within two hours. I knew something was wrong right away, so we made an appointment and took him into see the pediatrician. We were informed that Ethan had Type 1 Diabetes, and were immediately sent to see the pediatric endocrinologist. The rest of the day is a blur of shots and calculations as my husband and I tried to comprehend what was going on around us. What did this mean? Was our son going to die young? What was Type 1 Diabetes?
After some time and the shock started wearing off, we found a lot of resources through JDRF. This included getting involved with the local support group through them. It was so nice to be put in touch with moms just like me who were dealing with the day to day that comes with taking care of a child with Diabetes. Our family has learned how to help take care of Ethan and we now have the knowledge we need to keep him healthy. I've learned that Ethan is going to live a long and healthy life, and hopefully a cure will be found within his lifetime. With the research JDRF helps conduct and fund, I feel positive that we will find a cure soon!!!
Please help us with this extremely important cause by either making a donation in the name of our team, or by joining us in our walk for the cure!! Thank you!!!!
