Dear Family, Friends, and Co-Workers
It's that time of year again.
We are writing to you on behalf of our daughter, Isabella Rojo. At the age of 6 she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). She is required to constantly check her blood sugar levels by pricking her fingers 6 times per day and she has to have 5 shots/infusions per day. Isabella is now on an insulin pump. Her pump gives her insulin through out the day and when needed for food/drink intake. Her insulin travels from her pump through tubing to her infusion site. Her infusion site is connected to her body 24 hours a day. She has to change her infusion site every three days to avoid any complications. She must maintain a tightly controlled diet and scheduled food intake. Worst of all, this disease carries with it the risk of life-threatening complications. At age 12 diabetes is part of Isabella's everyday life. To this point she has endured 13,140 finger pricks and 10,950 insulin shots/infusions. Insulin is Not a Cure; it is merely Life Support!
As parents we try from the moment our children are born to protect them from harm. As you can imagine, this diagnosis of T1D has changed our lives forever. While managing day to day through these life changes, we are committed to JDRF. We raise funds to fulfill the important mission to improve the life of our daughter and of every person with T1D, while accelerating progress toward curing, better treating, and preventing the disease. Please join us in our commitment to JDRF.
We have formed our walk team "Bella's Roses" to raise money to support the research required to cure, better treat, and prevent T1D, and to provide support while managing this disease.
We are actively recruiting anyone who would like to join our team and raise money in support of Isabella Rojo and the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. The walk will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Tempe Town Lake.
We greatly appreciate your consideration and support of this worthy cause. We look forward to having as many people as possible join us. Even if you can't join us at the Walk, we appreciate any and all donations made as part of our fundraising efforts for JDRF.
If you have any questions or need any information, please don't hesitate to contact us. Again, thank you from all of us for your generous support of Isabella Rojo. Please check out her new youtube video. The URL is below.
