Thank you all for visiting TEAM DESTANIE's fundraising page. I am the proud captain to this team and mother of Destanie. I am amazed everyday by her bravery and courage and would like to share with everyone how incredible she truly is.
Destanie was diagnosed just before her 4th birthday in Nov. of 2011. The beginning was extremely difficult as anyone could imagine. Although the shots got tolerable, the complications and frequent ER visits were unbearable and were taking a toll on her and us as a family. She was put on the Animus pump in Oct of 2012 and we have seen so much improvement with her numbers. Her last A1C was healthy even for one without diabetes. Although her diabetes has been controlled, the disease still has its costs and has influenced other disease and disorders to take over her body. Since being diagnosed with Type 1 she has had symptoms and/or been tested for childhood arthritis, celiac disease, eosinophilic esophagitis and has had several specialist dr appointment weekly, and procedures that never seem to get any easier. Every day is a challenge and a gift. There are times we feel like we can't make it another day living in fear and she, as a five year old, has to see a psychologist to work out her fears. However, I look into those beautiful brown eyes and know that there is enough strength for the both of us. I also know that with amazing organizations like the JDRF that are there so many people behind us. Please show your support of these astonishing young children and their incredible families and donate or walk to raise awareness. Each step gives them hope and each dollar brings them closer to a cure.
