Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!
The special boy we are raising funds for is Jackson Budd. He was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at Easter when he was 5 years old, a few weeks before his 6th birthday. He has now had diabetes for about a year and a half.
Jackson started losing weight and not feeling very well and had to use the restroom frequently and drink lots of water. We suspected something was wrong and his mom, Nicole, suggested that we have him tested for diabetes. Sure enough, Jackson had developed Type I diabetes. The first few months were difficult as he didn't quite understand why he had to have a shot 4 times a day and prick his finger with a needle even more often than that. He also had to be awakened in the middle of the night to have his sugar tested.
Since that time, Jackson has become so brave with shots and testing his sugar (as we now call it) and is an inspiration to his whole family and others. He uses an insulin pump so he doesn't have to get shots quite as often. He almost never complains about having diabetes and is very diligent about "taking good care of my diabetes". He watches what he eats, religiously monitors his blood sugar, and even helps his Dad try to lower his carbs.
Please help us raise funds to find a cure for Type I (juvenile) diabetes. We really appreciate all the love and support that so many have given to Jackson and our family since Jackson's diagnosis.
Thank you for your support, and we'll see you on Walk day!
