Hello friends and family!
I will be walking in the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Walk to Cure Diabetes this year and I would really appreciate your support to help fight this disease!
Type-1 Diabetes is an auto-immune disease which attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. I was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes when I was only 13 months old and have been insulin dependent ever since. My body no longer produces its own insulin and I must rely on insulin injections or an insulin pump to live. I prick my finger at least 6 times a day to monitor my blood-sugar levels and have to carefully balance my insulin doses with eating and daily activities. It can be very challenging, but I am determined to fight to find a cure.
Having Type-1 diabetes means that my body does not produce ANY insulin, which is essential to stay alive. I have to pump insulin into my body manually every time I eat so that my body can function correctly. Thanks to amazing scientific developments, I am able to do this. Before the insulin pump and other life-saving devices were developed, there was no way to treat diabetes. Now, thanks to research organizations including JDRF, scientists were able to develop the devices that have saved millions of lives, including my own. When you donate to JDRF, you are giving researchers the money to continue their research and strive for a cure!
JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is committed to research to find a cure for Type-1 Diabetes and also to make advances in the treatment and prevention of the disease. Please consider supporting JDRF and millions of people like me!
If you would like to show your personal support, I would like to welcome any of you who would like to walk with my family in the Walk to Cure Diabetes on Saturday, November 2, 2013 starting at 9:00am. It’s a 5K Walk around Tempe Town Lake located at 80 W Rio Salado Pkwy in Tempe, AZ.
You could also make a tax-deductible donation to JDRF, but it is completely optional! Simply click "Donate to Sarah" above and fill out your information. All money goes to JDRF to help find a cure for Type-1 diabetes!
Thank you so much for all your support!
