Hi, Welcome to Britt's Brigade- Walk to Cure Juvenile Diabetes Nov. 2, 2013
As many of you know, our family has battled this disease for nearly 49 years. Our dad, Donald, was diagnosed with Type 1 (Juvenile) diabetes at the age of 2 and has struggled with it ever since!
Brittani Colleen Manning, our sister, was born on March 19, 1986. At the age of 2, my mom and dad received news that she too, was type 1 diabetic.
Then, for a 2nd time my mom and dad received news that this disease, had once again affected our family, when I was diagnosed at the age of 8 years old.
Fast forward 15 years later...our oldest sister, knowing all too well the signs of this disease was not feeling right, she was not feeling herself and knew she needed to find out if she too had developed type 1 diabetes. And as we had all thought, but hoped and prayed was not true, she too had been stricken by this disease.
All of our struggles with this disease have been difficult, but the struggles of our dear sister, Brittani were extremely hard on her little body and ultimately played a part in her untimely death 6 years ago, at the young age of 21. Juvenile Diabetes is often genetic and with the latest technology and research we hope that a cure will be found soon and that our children (Ava,Dylan,Isabella & Gabriella) will never have to know the struggles of this disease. So we not only walk for Brittani, but for all who have to deal with diabetes directly or indirectly on a daily basis.
Please join us in honoring Brittani by walking, volunteering at the event or donating. We have a goal to raise $3,000.00 by gathering walkers with pledges and donations each. All donations are welcome, no matter the amount.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) “Walk to Cure Diabetes” will take place at Tempe Town Lake on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. with registration starting at 7:30. If you can, please register ahead of time (by going to our Team page) This will help cut out a lot of time and help things go more smoothly the morning of the walk. There will also be lots of vendors there with activities and products to try out, so get there early and you can take advantage of all the free stuff! There is no fee to enter, but we would be forever greatful if you could help us in our goal to raise $3,000.00 to help us find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
If you would like to make a donation, or register as a walker and join our team, please do so by clicking on the above links.
We thank you in advance for helping us to reach our goal towards finding a cure!
