On Saturday, November 2nd, our family, friends and co-workers will be walking in the Walk to Cure Diabetes. As you may know, I have a most personal connection with the disease that affects millions of children and adults. My three year old son, Jackson, was diagnosed with diabetes over two years ago. As a result, besides closely monitoring his diet, Jackson must test his blood sugar levels three to four times a day and take insulin shots a minimum of four times daily. This equates to approximately 1100 finger sticks and 1460 shots in his legs and arms every year. And this will continue every year for the rest of his life unless a cure is found.
As you can imagine, this has forever changed all of our lives. In my attempt to encourage and support Jackson, while educating those around us, I have formed SUGAR FREE JUST LIKE ME walk team in order to do two things; 1) raise money to support the research required to find a cure, and 2) to provide Jackson with support and let him know that he is not alone in his fight against diabetes. This is also teaching Jackson he can do anything he wants.
To accomplish my goal of trying to form a very large team to show my support for Jackson, I am actively recruiting anyone who would like to join me on this team and raise money in support of Jackson and the overall Walk to Cure Diabetes.
