Hi! My name is Hayleigh and I am 13 years old. I haven't had it very easy since the day I was born. When I was 4 months old, after getting extremely sick many times, I was diagnosed with Asthma. Then when I was 22 months old, I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformations's and had my first surgery (of 3 so far) to "repair" them right away. That first surgery saved my life! Shortly after that, I was diagnosed with a vascular/bleeding disorder called Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (or HHT).
If all of that wasn't enough I was given another life changing diagnosis at the age of 4. On February 18th, 2005, I was also diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. (After that I was also diagnosed with Celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder. People with Type 1 have a much greater chance of developing Celiac or any other autoimmune disorder)
Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune Disease. I did not get this from eating too much junk food, or lack of exercise. I don't know why I got this, but I did. And I would love a cure!
In the past (almost) 9 years, I have had to endure over 6,000 shots of life saving insulin, over 31,000 finger pokes to check my blood sugar and over 900 insulin pump site changes, There have also been countless high blood sugars that make me feel awful. Countless low blood sugars that make me feel even worse. Many tears, lots of frustration and more worry than any 13 year old should have to deal with.
I have also used numerous vials of insulin just to stay alive! But INSULIN IS NOT A CURE!
A cure to me would mean no more shots. No more finger pokes. No more site changes. No more highs or lows. And no more tears, frustration or worry.
Your donation in ANY amount can help me get one step closer to what I hope and pray for every single day. $1, $5, $10 or more, would mean more to me than you know.
Will you help me find that cure?
