Hello! almost 4 years ago, our world was turned upside down. Our, then 9 year old daughter, McKenna, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children.
It truly changed our lives. We cannot go anywhere without emergency supplies in case McKenna becomes hypoglycemic, extremely low blood sugars. We have to count every carbohydrate she eats and give her the correct amount of insulin so her body can convert sugars to energy. She cannot go anywhere without a blood glucose meter to test her blood sugars. Despite all these obstacles, McKenna tries to lead as normal a life as possible.
We are fortunate in that we have wonderful support from our family and friends.
This year, Team Summers will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes on November 2, 2013 at Tempe Town Lake. Please join us in our effort to fine a cure for Type 1 Diabetes so McKenna can stop being dependant on insulin given to her through a pump.
There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
Thank you for your support!
